Course Overview

This microcredential offers an essential introduction to one of the most important concepts within the Montessori pedagogy: the Four Planes of Development. Developed through Dr Maria Montessori’s close observation of human growth, this model divides the first 24 years of life into four distinct stages, each with its own unique characteristics, needs and opportunities for learning.

Across the 1-2 hours, you’ll explore the key features of each plane, including what motivates children at different ages, how their cognitive and emotional development unfolds, and how Montessori environments are carefully designed to meet those needs.
