Course Overview
This practical, engaging workshop introduces the core Montessori materials used to develop a child’s understanding of numbers, quantity, and counting. Whether you’re an educator, parent, or student, you’ll learn how to present early mathematics activities in a way that’s clear, logical, and joyful for the child. Guided by experienced Montessori trainers, you’ll gain confidence in delivering key presentations and linking concrete materials to abstract mathematical understanding.
Whether you’re new to Montessori or deepening your knowledge, this workshop offers a practical, inspiring approach to early numeracy – equipping you with tools to foster confidence and a genuine love of mathematics.
The Mathematics Materials
Montessori Mathematics begins with quantity – helping children see, feel, and understand the concept of “how many” before introducing written numerals or equations. In this course, you’ll explore foundational materials such as the Number Rods, Sandpaper Numbers, Spindle Box, Bead Stair, and Number Cards and Counters. As children progress, materials like the Teens and Tens Boards, Golden Beads, and Linear Counting Chains introduce place value, sequencing, and skip counting in a clear and tangible way. Each material builds logically on the last, supporting not just memorisation, but a deep, intuitive grasp of number relationships and operations. Through this carefully sequenced approach, children gain confidence, accuracy, and a sense of joy in working with numbers.
