CHC50125 Explained: What’s Changing in the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

November 28, 2025

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care has recently been updated, with expanded entry requirements that make the qualification more accessible to a wider range of educators. These changes mean that more people with hands-on experience or alternative early childhood qualifications can now take the next step towards leadership roles in the sector.

To reflect these updates, the qualification code has changed from CHC50121 to CHC50125 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care. While the course content itself remains the same, the broader entry pathways ensure that more aspiring educators can benefit from this nationally recognised qualification.

So, what does this mean for you? Let’s break it down.

Same course, new accessibility

Although the qualification code has changed, the knowledge and skills you will gain remain consistent with industry expectations. The CHC50125 Diploma continues to prepare educators to lead teams, guide practice, support children’s development, and step into more senior responsibilities.

The key change lies in the updated entry requirements, creating more flexible pathways into the qualification.

Updated entry requirements for CHC50125

Students can now enrol into the Diploma if they meet one of the following:

  • Hold a Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30113 or CHC30121); OR
  • Hold an Australian Certificate III in Children’s Services and have at least 12 months cumulative employment (full-time equivalent) in a regulated early childhood service within the last five years (with verifiable evidence); OR
  • Hold the CHCSS00147 Entry into Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care skill set.

These expanded pathways acknowledge the valuable real-world experience that many educators already bring to the sector and ensure that those who have trained under earlier qualification codes are not disadvantaged.

What’s happening with funding?

We are currently awaiting the CHC50125 qualification to be added to the Queensland Government’s Priority Funding List.

While we wait, students can enrol into CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care, which remains funded.

Once government approval for CHC50125 funding is confirmed, we will seamlessly transition eligible CHC50121 students into CHC50125, ensuring you graduate with the latest qualification.

We anticipate this transition will be finalised by the end of June 2026.
